The Fu-Mech duck foot bend 90° (model FU-DFU) is fabricated to order to complete tank, pump-room and civil pipework packages. This guide covers where it is used, the critical point in selecting and installing it, and how to order.

At a glance

  • Rests on the floor or a concrete plinth.
  • Carries the weight of the vertical run from below.
  • Flanges drilled to ANSI B16.5 or PN16 to order.
  • Fabricated to size and drawing.

What is it?

A 90° bend with a welded foot (base) so it can rest on the floor or a concrete plinth. It turns a horizontal line into a vertical one and carries the weight of the vertical pipe and its water from below, instead of loading the pump or valves.

Where it is used

  • At the base of risers and vertical runs in pump rooms.
  • Tank outlets and pump connections.
  • Wherever a bend must be supported from the floor.

Plinth and fixing

A level concrete plinth is cast at the correct height and the foot is fixed to it to the project details. The plinth carries the vertical load; its design and fixing are set by the approved designer.

Caution

Check sizes, flange standard and lengths against the approved piping drawing before fabrication; made-to-order items are built to the data you send.

Frequently asked questions

Why not use a standard elbow with a support?

A duck foot bend combines the bend and its support in one fabricated piece, so the load sits directly on the floor without extra supports around the bend.

Which flange standards are available?

Flanges are drilled to ASME B16.5 Class 150 or EN 1092-1 PN16, to match the valves and equipment on your project.

Do you make non-standard items?

Yes. We fabricate non-standard sizes, lengths and end connections to the project drawing. Send the drawing and we send a quotation.

What should I send for a quotation?

Model code FU-DFU, Size (DN), Flange standard: ANSI B16.5 or PN16, Quantity, and the drawing if the item is non-standard.
